iPhone 14 development falls behind schedule due to lockdowns in China – Times of India

The next-gen iPhones are expected to debut in the second half of this year, probably in September. However, according to a report from Nikkei Asia, at least one of the models of the iPhone 14 series is falling behind schedule. And the reason behind the delay is reportedly the COVID lockdowns in China. The report suggests that the Chinese suppliers for Apple are facing delays due to the stringent ongoing lockdown in the country.
As per the report, the lockdown in and around Shanghai is deferring the usual operation, delaying the development of one of the iPhone 14 models. It is being reported that Luxshare has secured orders to manufacture two of the four iPhone 14 models expected to come out this year. Meanwhile, Pentagon is another huge supplier for the Cupertino giant. And it is believed that the two are facing a hard time keeping up with the schedule owing to the no-COVID policy in China. Some estimations suggest that the lockdown in China could cost the Cupertino giant up to USD 8 million in revenue this year.
Nikkei Asia reports that the iPhone 14 series is currently in the EVT (Engineering Verification Test) phase, and it is expected to end by June. But one of the upcoming iPhone models is said to be about three weeks behind schedule. Apple is expecting to begin mass production by September. The Cupertino-based tech giant has urged suppliers in China to speed up development to be on track for its upcoming launch.
