iOS 16 is going to be a big deal at the WWDC 22 event next Monday and so far, we have known only a few things about it. The WWDcC event will be the birthplace of Apple’s new software products, which include iOS 16, iPadOS 16, as well as update to macOS, watchOS, and more. While less is known about the other platforms, it is iOS 16 that is rumoured to get some of the big changes. Will it be as big an update as iOS 7? Probably not, but Apple has some exciting things planned for all the iPhone users already rocking iOS 15.

Thanks to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we now have a fair idea of what to expect form iOS 16 at the WWDC announcement. The iOS 16 update is expected to reach almost all Apple devices currently running iOS 15, although a few devices are expected to miss the cut this time — most likely the iPhone 6s series, iPhone SE 1st Gen, and probably some of the older iPad devices. But then again, Apple loves to pull off surprises n the stage.

iOS 16: What to expect

New Notifications Panel

Apple is expected to revamp the notification panel on iOS 16. The current system of handling notifications on iOS 15 isn’t the greatest yet and Apple has bene long rumoured to do something about notifications pane. This year, we are going to see some changes.

A New Health App

The Health app on iOS 16 is also said to get a major upgrade. No idea on what these upgrades will be but these updates will be in sync with the Health features added to watchOS for the Apple Watch devices.

Widget wallpapers for lockscreen

iOS 16 could also get new lock screen wallpapers that are said to have widget-like capabilities. There’s no idea on what these wallpapers could be but it seems the interactive live wallpapers could now show information from widgets, possibly in the way the Windows 10 lockscreen used to show information.

Support for Always On Display

iOS 16 is also said to bring support for Always On Display, although the feature could most likely be available only on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. As of now, it is unknown whether the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will get the feature.

New Messages app

The Messages app could also get some big upgrades, especially with regards to audio messages. Gurman says that you can expect some social media like features present in the Messages app.

Supported iPhones

It is expected that iOS 16 with its myriad of features and upgrades could drop support for the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE 1st Gen. However, the iPhone 7 and all newer models are likely to get the iOS 16 update. That said, Apple could pull off a surprise and release a watered-down version of iOS 16 for the old models, as it did with iOS 15 last year.
