Inter Miami ‘set to complete Jordi Alba signing TOMORROW’

Inter Miami ‘set to complete Jordi Alba signing TODAY’… and he has taken a ‘drastic pay cut’ on his $24m Barcelona deal to follow Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets to MLS

Inter Miami will confirm the signing of Jordi Alba as soon as Friday – with the Spain star following Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets to the Major League Soccer team.

The move would be another massive coup for Miami and according to the Miami Herald, it is basically a done deal.

The publication adds he is taking a ‘drastic pay cut’ on his $24million salary with former team Barcelona, who he left recently upon his contract expiring.

His contract is believed to be for two-and-a-half years with an option for a third season – which is set to be the same length as Messi and Busquets.

The 34-year-old will not take one of Miami’s designated player spots.

Alba has recently been on vacation with Sergio Busquets, the Miami-bound midfielder who also left Barcelona alongside Alba this summer.

Miami is last in the MLS Eastern Conference and in desperate need of some star quality to try and kick-start its season. But the team is arguably especially vulnerable at left-back.

Current first-choice Franco Negri is out for the rest of the season after injuring his right anterior cruciate ligament in the team’s 4-1 loss to Philadelphia Union in June.

Miami has plans in place to unveil Messi and Busquets at its DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday, July 16 – it is not yet known for sure if Alba will join them but it would appear likely.

Alba leaves Barcelona having made 459 appearances and won one Champions League, six Spanish league titles and five Copa del Reys.

Messi’s first game is planned to be on July 21 against Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.

In the meantime, Miami urgently needs to start picking up some more points in MLS before the star trio get to town.

The team is nine points outside the playoff places at present and next play against fellow playoff hopefuls DC United, coached by Wayne Rooney, on Saturday night.
