Since Messi announced his intentions to join Miami last month, the club had been fairly quiet until just days ago.
They teased his unveiling last Friday by inviting media to a ‘major event’ and promising ‘exciting entertainment’.
Owner Jorge Mas confirmed that the club was hoping for the playmaker to debut on July 21 vs. Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.
Miami also wished him a happy 36th birthday late last month.
But there has yet to be an official announcement concerning his impending arrival.
Although that is expected very soon.
Messi shared his final holiday pictures with wife Antonela and family on Tuesday amid reports his move will be officially confirmed on Thursday.
The 36-year-old is set to sign a two-and-a-half year contract with David Beckham’s MLS team, with the option for a third season in the United States.
Beckham’s Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has said Messi will earn in the region of $50m-$60m a year. That money will in part be paid by adidas and Apple.
Adidas will pay Messi a share of the Miami shirts they sell with his name on the back, while Apple will pay him for the subscriptions to MLS it gets upon his arrival.
Messi will be unveiled on Sunday night at Miami’s home alongside his former Barcelona teamate Sergio Busquets.
