Instagram users, get ready to see more ads in your feed – Times of India

Instagram users are perhaps used to seeing random ads popping here and there in the app. If you are on Instagram and found that annoying then there’s something worse in store as the Meta-owned photo sharing app could force users to see more ads in their feed. According to a blog post by Meta, the company is introducing new formats and ad placements on Instagram.

What do the new changes mean for users?

Meta said that the new features are being introduced for advertisers to “connect better with users on Instagram”. Businesses can now place ads in Explore home, the grid that people see when they first arrive on the Explore tab. So you will see more ads in the Explore tab.
Not just that Meta said that is is also “beginning to test ads in profile feed, which is the feed experience that people can scroll through after visiting another account’s profile and tapping on a post.” This means that in your profile feed you will see more ads than earlier. Ads are a staple on profile feed but it is set to increase. Meta said that it is testing this is an experiment with a “monetisation opportunity that will allow eligible creators to earn extra income from ads displayed in their profile feeds.” This will start with select US creators but don’t be surprised if it ends up being rolled out to all users across the world.
Meta is also using AI to deliver “meaningful” ads. “When a person engages with an ad, we’ll deliver ads underneath that we think may be of interest, powered by machine learning.” This, as per the company, adds to the “multi-advertiser contextual ads to existing Instagram feed ads campaigns outperformed running campaigns for the Purchase outcome compared to those that did not include multi-advertiser ads.”
