Inside Miley Cyrus’s Mind-blowing Music Midtown Festival Wardrobe

Miley Cyrus knows a great look when she sees one. If she wasn’t busy making music, the star could double as a fashion historian. Cyrus’s love of vintage, haute couture, and emerging designers makes her one the most stylish celebrities, so when she was preparing for her set at the Music Midtown festival this weekend, Cyrus made sure that her wardrobe was top notch. Her trip to Atlanta was filled with pieces from Maisie Wilen, Armani Privé, Balenciaga, Moncler, and more, all curated by Cyrus and her stylist, Bradley Kenneth. Sticking with a color palette of neon green, black, and white—save one incredible custom Shane Kastl faux-leather set featuring a cast of cartoon monsters by Maxx Morando—Cyrus played with print, texture, and sparkle to create a rockstar worthy look. Below, the star shares her unfiltered thoughts on her performance wardrobe and the choices behind each epic outfit.

“Norma Kamali is an ever-evolving designer. She goes from understated to over the top, and that is a talent in itself. She’s inspired me to do the same”

“It was a rainy day in Atlanta, so this Academy of NYC suit was perfect for bringing bright energy to a grey and drab environment and being that this look is the complete opposite of both those things.”

“DSquared2 made this look custom for me. Our thought was that the chiffon skirt would bring femininity to a rock show. [It’s] fabric is so soft and light, perfectly contradicting such a hard and heavy set.”

“My producer Mike Will has an event, and creative art space in Atlanta called The William. It is a blank canvas meant for expression! I purposefully brought a bold color & pattern, which coincidentally complemented his collection of cars!”

This look is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between two of my favorite emerging artists, Maxx Morando and Shane Kastl. Shane used existing pieces I’ve collected over time and customized Maxx’s cartoon characters [within] his construction. Their collaboration is the perfect example of sustainability becoming the next fashion phase, and it proves that anything can be reinvented, which resonates with me deeply.

My custom Armani Prive look was inspired by their spring 2021 collection. The beaded top was exquisitely executed! I wanted to serve “Princess of Punk” but bring the electricity of glam rock [by] using makeup to rebel against the expected. My concept for the hair was “Marilyn Mon-Mohawk” to honor Hollywood glamour and one of the most iconic pop culture pioneers.
