Inside Chanel and Tribeca Festivals’ Through Her Lens Luncheon
As part of the 22-annual Tribeca Festival, Chanel and Tribeca Festival’s Jane Rosenthal and Paula Weinstein hosted a celebratory luncheon for the Through Her Lens filmmaker program. Joined by Through Her Lens’ advisory board (Patty Jenkins, Greta Lee, A.V. Rockwell), the fête celebrated its 9th year at The Odeon and was attended by women and non-binary writers, directors, actors, and creatives. The partnership between Chanel and Tribeca Festival began in 2005 with the mission to cultivate, mentor, and support women filmmakers with year-round programming.
Guests arrived at the beloved Tribeca restaurant and walked the black carpet draped in elegant palms. Inside, partygoers enjoyed a selection of passed canapés, sweets, Aperol spritzes, and lattes. Draped in iconic Chanel tweeds and double C logos, guests gleefully greeted one another as if the occasion were a chic reunion of women in the film industry.
Addressing the importance of the Through Her Lens program, Rosenthal said, “It’s more vital than ever for women and non-binary people to have a platform to tell their stories. Nearly 70% of Through Her Lens participants are women or non-binary filmmakers of color. Representation matters, plain and simple.” Weinstein introduced Rockwell (who recently directed A Thousand and One) and Lee (recent star of Past Lives) to the room. Both went on to share their personal experience with the program, citing the mentorship’s role in launching and sustaining their respective careers.
In the audience were more starry faces (leave it to Chanel to curate such a guestlist!): Dianna Agron, Zoey Deutch, Nina Dobrev, Carlotta Kohl, Eileen Kelly, Francesca Scorsese, Gayle King, Hari Nef, Jemima Kirke, Ji-young Yoo, Kate Siegel, Kathryn Bigelow, Kelsey Asbille, Lily Rabe, Lola Tung, Midori Francis, Misty Copeland, Stephanie Hsu, Stephanie Okereke Linus, Taylour Paige, and Zazie Beetz. As the festivities ended, partygoers left toting black and white Chanel shopping bags, venturing into the city for their next stop at Tribeca Festival’s robust programming.
