Infiltration bid foiled along LoC in Kupwara, one killed: Army | India News – Times of India

SRINAGAR: A joint team of the Army and J&K Police foiled an infiltration attempt and killed a terrorist along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district early Wednesday, while another infiltrator managed to escape to the other side of the border, the Army said in a statement, adding that Pakistan was trying to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir while putting on a façade of adhering to the ceasefire agreement signed between two countries.
As per intelligence agencies, the slain terrorist was identified as Mohammed Shakur (32) from Pakistan’s Syedpura. For the past three decades, Pakistani youth have been used as cannon fodder with the fruitless aim to constantly disrupt progress towards collective peace, a Srinagar-based defence spokesperson said.
Based on specific information from the police — which was corroborated by other intelligence agencies — about the movement of a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists through the forward area of Sudpura in Tangdhar sector along the LoC, the area was kept under constant surveillance, the spokesperson said.
“Alert troops on the anti-infiltration grid intercepted two terrorists trying to infiltrate into the Indian side around 1.45am Wednesday, and fired upon the terrorists, killing one of them,” the spokesperson said, adding that the second terrorist managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-series rifle, two pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition and war-like stores.
Timely action and close coordination between the Indian Army, J&K Police, and other intelligence agencies led to the foiling of the infiltration attempt, thus averting a major tragedy in Kashmir Valley, said the spokesperson, adding: “Continuous engagements along the LoC are uncanny reminders of efforts by Pakistan to infuse (terrorism) into Kashmir and disrupt peace and harmony while putting on the façade of ceasefire understanding.”
