Chennai Super Kings made three changes to its combination that failed to click in the tournament-opener
Short straight boundaries. Wet ball as a result of excessive dew. Mediocre bowling and field placements. And batters in good nick. All of it resulted in the Chennai Super Kings piling on a stupendous total versus Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League on Thursday night.
Barring Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was run out by Ravi Bishnoi’s direct hit for one, every Super Kings batter hammered a hapless Super Giants attack as the defending champion put on 210 for seven. Considering the conditions at the Cricket Club of India’s Brabourne Stadium are set to be even more batting-friendly with every passing over, the onus will be on a rejigged bowling attack to deliver the goods.

Conway’s absence meant Robin Uthappa opened the innings with Gaikwad. And the veteran batter revelled in the position that he most enjoys batting at. The first two balls of the innings saw Uthappa flicking and cutting Avesh Khan to the fence. It set the tone for the rest o the innings as Uthappa raced to a 25-ball fifty before being undone by Ravi Bishnoi’s quick googly.
The left-handed duo of Moeen and Shivam Dube came good as the duo continued to find the gaps and clear the fence literally at will. While Dube hit the top-tier of the CCI pavilion with a six, Rayudu struck the roof at the other end to give a capacity crowd many reasons to rejoice in.
Barring Bishnoi, who bowled an immaculate spell of 2/24, no other Super Giants could impress until Andrew Tye picked two wickets in the last over. But Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose first-ball six over covers off Avesh in the penultimate over was one of the highlights of the evening, finished the innings on a high with a cut that sailed over short third.
