Indian players complain about getting cold sandwiches at the T20 Cricket World Cup

Players from the Indian cricket team have complained about the quality of food provided at the Twenty20 World Cup – and say they are speaking out for the good of all countries.

The side went through a training session on Tuesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground ahead of their Super 12 clash against the Netherlands and were unimpressed with the cold sandwiches, fruits and falafel offered to them afterwards.

For the tournament, local providers are responsible for feeding the teams and support staff.

Some members of the team decided to order food online, and will continue to do so unless the quality of fare improves.

‘The team told the ground authorities about the meal we got,’ an anonymous source within the Indian squad told AFP.

‘Will you be happy if you are served a sandwich after three hours of workout? ‘I know all the teams are getting the same thing but they are not speaking out because most of them are not in a position to raise a voice.

‘We did not train today and hope we get something better in our next net session, and if not, then the players will order online like we did on Tuesday,’ said the source.

India is a superpower within world cricket and the side have reportedly insisted upon better offerings in the next training session or they may take the issue to the sport’s governing bodies.

India is also home to a quarter of all undernourished people worldwide, according to the World Food Program. 

Around 21 per cent of the population live on less than $1.90(USD) a day – many of who would no doubt be happy to have a sandwich, falafel and fruit to eat..
