Indian Mother-Daughter Duo Makes Rangoli Using 26,000 Ice Cream Sticks, Breaks Record

The traditional artwork of rangoli doesn’t need an introduction. It is a creative expression where you can draw colourful patterns. Generally, people stick to colours specifically available for this purpose or seek help from flower petals in different hues. But you will be amazed to know that a mother-daughter duo has added a foodie twist to their rangoli. Yes, you read that right. Sudha Ravi and her daughter Rakshita have come up with a 6-by-6 metre rangoli using 26,000 ice cream sticks. And, they made it to the Singapore Book of Records.

The duo presented the Rangoli last week during a cultural event organised as part of the ongoing Pongal festivities in the Little India precinct. It is to be noted that Sudha is already listed in the record book for creating a 3,200 sq ft rangoli in 2016. Let’s discuss the rangoli they created. The artwork, which took about a month to complete, portrays notable Tamil scholar-poets Tiruvalluvar, Avvaiyaar, Bharathiyaar and Bharathidasan. It coincides with the celebration of their works by Kalamanjari, a Tamil cultural organisation, which organised the event, and the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA).

Soundara Nayaki Vairavan, the founder of Kalamanjari, which promotes Tamil literary works through music and dance, stated, “Kalamanjari and team did a vocal performance on the songs of these scholars.”
