Indian boy makes it to Guinness Book of World Records as youngest app developer at just 12

“Where there is a will, there is a way!” This 12-year-old boy from Haryana in India has proved this phrase right while entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest app developer. Kartikeya Jakhar, who is a Class-8 student from Jhajjar’s Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, managed to develop three apps based on online learning by himself. Not just that, he also bagged a scholarship from Harvard University in America. So far, the young boy has been awarded with several prestigious awards.

Hindustan Times quoted Kartikeya as saying that his father Ajit Singh who is a farmer in Haryana, helped him to purchase a smartphone costing around Rs. 10,000 for his online classes during the pandemic. He says that the phone used to have many issues during the coding process for app development. However, he managed the phone with the help of YouTube and continued his studies.

“I made three apps- the first app was related to General Knowledge named Lucent G.K. online. Second app was Ram Kartik Learning Centre that teaches coding and graphic designing. The third app was Shri Ram Kartik Digital Education. Now, these apps are offering free training to over 45,000 students. I got motivation from our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on Digital India campaign. I want to serve the nation,” Kartikeya said. His father added that the smartphone that was used by Kartikeya had a damaged screen, but his enthusiasm helped him to develop three apps.

The chief minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar also took to Twitter to congratulate Kartikeya. “After sports, studies and arts, now Haryana’s youth are making the name of state bright all over the world in technology… Congratulations and best wishes to his entire family.” Khattar tweeted.

Meanwhile, Captain Shakti Singh, the deputy commissioner of Jhajjar, Haryana, promised that they will provide adequate help to Kartikeya whenever required. He also assured that they will conduct a session of Kartikeya with other students so that he can motivate others.
