Indian boxers Minakshi, Preeti, Parveen, Ankushita Boro, and Lovlina Borgohain have secured semifinal berths and guaranteed multiple medals for the country at the ongoing Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan.

Olympic medalist Borgohain won by 3-2 against Kazakhstan’s Valentina Khalzova in the 75 kg by split decision. 

Her win has assured India of the fifth medal after Minakshi, Preeti, Parveen, and Ankushita Boro won their respective quarterfinal matches.

2022 World Championships bronze medallist Parveen defeated Thailand’s Panpatchara Somnuek in the 63-kilogram category by 5-0.

 

Ankushita Boro defeated Japan’s Tsubata Arsia by 5-0 in the 66 kg quarter-finals bout, assuring India of another medal.

Earlier yesterday, November 5, Minakshi and Preeti also assured the country two medals, advancing to the semifinal.

Minakshi, in the 52 kg flyweight category defeated Philippines’ Irish Magno by 4-1 in her quarterfinal match. 

Preeti, boxing in the 57 kg featherweight category, defeated Uzbekistan’s Turdibekova Sitora in a dominant fashion by 5-0 in her quarterfinal match. Minakshi will now face Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg, Preeti will take on Japan’s Irie Sena and Parveen will be up against Mongolia’s Uranbileg Shinetsetseg in the semifinals on the 9th of November.

Seven Indians including 2022 CWG bronze medalist Mohammed Hussamuddin in 57kg and 5-time Asian medalist Shiva Thapa will be contesting in the 63.5kg quarter-finals of the tournament today. The other pugilists in action will be Govind Sahani (48kg) Ananta (54kg), Amit Kumar (67kg), Monika (48kg), and Simranjit Kaur (60kg).

Simranjit, the 2018 World Championship bronze medalist, is making her comeback and will be facing the Asian Games gold medallist Yeonji Oh of Korea. The competition is witnessing the participation of 267 boxers from 27 top boxing nations.
