Indian billionaire, Akasa air promoter Rakesh Jhunjhunwala dies at 62
Indian billionaire stock investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala known as “India’s Warren Buffett” has passed away at age 62, several leading Indian media outlets reported on Sunday.
He was on dialysis for the past few months.
A trader, investor and entrepreneur, Jhunjhunwala, was known as the ‘Big Bull of Dalal Street’ for his successful investments in stock market.
The Chartered Accountant managed his own portfolio as a partner in his asset management firm, Rare Enterprises.
Hailing from Rajasthan, Jhunjhunwala was raised in Mumbai. His father worked as a Commissioner of Income Tax.
Jhunjhunwala’s Akasa airline recently began its commercial operations, by starting its first flight service on August 7, 2022.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolence to the veteran investor’s family.
“Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was indomitable. Full of life, witty and insightful, he leaves behind an indelible contribution to the financial world. He was also very passionate about India’s progress. His passing away is saddening. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.” Modi tweeted.
