India vs England World Cup 2023 warm-up game called off due to rain in Guwahati
The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 PM, but the inclement weather made it impossible for the match to begin.
The warm-up match between India and England for the World Cup 2023, which was supposed to take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, September 30, had to be called off due to persistent rain. Unfortunately, not a single ball was bowled throughout the match.
The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 PM, but the inclement weather made it impossible for the match to begin. Consequently, the decision to abandon the match was made at around 5:40 PM, as the rain showed no signs of stopping.
Initially, the match was delayed due to the rain, even after the toss had taken place at the designated time. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. However, before the first ball could be bowled, the rain poured down, forcing the players to retreat to the pavilion.
“No particular reason [behind batting first], it’s very hot out there. Just want to make sure that our bowlers stay fresh and bowl under the lights which is not going be so taxing for the bowlers. Because we have been playing lot of cricket off late, so just want to make sure that we are looking after them.
“We just got to play good cricket, we played 7 or 8 games recently, and we want to make sure that the guys stay fresh for the 8th of October. We are playing one of the top teams and everyone is fit and ready to go,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
India will next face Netherlands on October 3rd.
