India sets new record for most Asian Champions trophy hockey titles, beat Malaysia 4-3 in the final
This is the first time that Malaysia have ended runners-up of the men’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey.
The Indian men’s hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, orchestrated a remarkable comeback in a mere 11 minutes, overturning a 1-3 deficit in the opening half to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over Malaysia. This win not only sealed their victory in the Asian Champions Trophy but also marked a historic fourth title for India, a feat achieved on their home turf in Chennai.
The summit clash at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Saturday evening commenced with an early advantage for India, courtesy of Jugraj Singh’s exceptional penalty corner. However, Malaysia swiftly retaliated, leveling the score at the end of the first quarter. Their momentum continued into the second quarter, where they struck twice, establishing a two-goal lead by halftime.
