Sri Lankan will be without one of their top performers of Asia Cup 2023 for the final clash against India on Sunday. Star spinner Maheesh Theekshana will not be available to play for his side after picking up a hamstring injury.
Theekshana injured his right hamstring during Sri Lanka’s Super Four clash against Pakistan. A scan confirmed the muscle injury. As per a statement from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), “Maheesh Theekshana, who strained his right hamstring during the game against Pakistan, will not be available for the finals.”
A top performer for his side in the ongoing tournament, Theekshana is the joint fourth highest wicket-taker of Asia Cup 2023. He has bagged eight wickets in five matches at an average of 29.12 with best figures of 3 for 69. He has been useful with the bat also, contributing 32 runs in three innings with a top score of 28.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selectors had replaced Theekshana in the Asia Cup 2023 squad with Sahan Arachchige who is a top-order batter and bowls right-arm off-break, like Theekshana. He has played only one ODI till now but impressed by scoring 57 runs and taking a wicket.
India and Sri Lanka are set to lock horns in the Asia Cup 2023 final at Colombo on Sunday. While India is hoping to lift its eighth Asia Cup title, Sri Lanka is looking to spoil the party for Rohit Sharma & Co by winning the tournament for the seventh time.
