Detailed match report
The Indians were hanging by thread in the complete match. On the final day of the game, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane inflicted hopes after a fall of three wickets on Day 4 of the match. Scott Boland proved out to be a hero as he removed Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon then got Ajinkya Rahane and the remaining batters to complete a famous win.
The Indians won the toss and opted to bat first. Even though, they bowled well in the first hour of the game, the Indians probably missed their lengths thereafter and Steve Smith and Travis Head pounced off very well. The duo stitched a 285-run stand for the 4th wicket and helped Australia set a big 469 on the board.
India had a big task up on them and Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a fine start with 30/0 but Cummins took Rohit first and then Scott Boland’s jaffa outfoaxed Gill. The top four failed to produce big score and Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja came to rescue before Shardul Thakur helping Rahane later. India replied with 296 and handed a 173-run lead to Aussies.
In the third innings, Aussies were led by Alex Carey’ 66-run knock. The top order did not perform well and Marnus Labuschagne was struggling for his 41. Mitchell Starc and Carey led Aussies to 270 before Pat Cummins called the declaration.
