IND vs AUS 3rd ODI: BIZARRE run continues for Suryakumar Yadav with hat-trick of golden ducks
Things could go no right for India’s Surykaumar Yadav after lightning struck not once, not twice but thrice after he was dismissed for a third consecutive golden duck in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. Suryakumar, ICC T20I Player of the Year for 2022, has not enjoyed his recent time with the bat, but getting dismissed for a golden duck in three consecutive matches only reminds of Martin Tyler’s epic commentary for Sergio Aguero’s goal to clinch the Premier League title for Manchester City in 2012 – “I swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again. So watch it, drink it in.”
Bizarre run continues
Having tasted a bad run of form in Mumbai and Vizag, the team management had backed Suryakumar Yadav to bounce back from the horrible run. However, in an extraordinary turn of passage Surya hit a new low and was scalped by Ashton Agar on the second ball of the 36th over to compound his miserable run-in.
Surya was dismissed for a duck in the first and second ODI by Mitchell Starc and was unable to judge the flight of the ball against the spin of Agar. Surely, Surya will be disappointed by going this low, but thankfully for him; he won’t be on the international scene for the next couple of months. The 32-year-old will now feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians and will probably get back his mojo in the IPL.
However, despite this unfortunate record he still joins legendary Sachin Tendulkar as he too in 1994 was dismissed for three consecutive golden ducks.
What happened in the Australian innings?
Tight bowling spells by Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya helped India bundle out Australia for 269 in 49 overs in the third and final game of the three-match ODI series at MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.
Mitchell Marsh scored the highest for Australia at 47 and made them from as many deliveries. Alex Carey played a knock of 38 runs. For India, Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav bagged three wickets each while Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj scalped two wickets respectively. Opting to bat first, Australia got off to a flying start as their openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head made the Indian bowlers toil hard making merry of the excellent batting conditions.
