IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall in Delhi, and 3 other states

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued an Orange alert for Haryana, North-East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms in Delhi for the next 3-4 days.

The weather department said that due to the moisture from the Arabian Sea, northwest India will have witness extremely heavy rainfall today and tomorrow and there will be thunderstorms in North-Western India for 5 days.

It also noted that there is a possibility of heavy rain in North-East Uttar Pradesh and thunderstorm in other areas on Sunday.

The IMD noted that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from 29 May, 2023.

The weather department noted that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 2 days.

IMD forecast and warning for next 5 days:

Northwest India:

-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and occasional gusty winds, squall very likely over Northwest India during next 4-5 days

-Hailstorm very likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh on 27 May and over north Rajasthan on 28 and 29 May

-Thundersquall and Gusty Wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely at isolated places over Haryana and Delhi on 27 May

-Similar weather conditions will prevail over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on 27 and 28 May.

-Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Haryana and northeast Rajasthan on 27 May, over northwest Uttar Pradesh on 27 and 28 May

Northeast India:

Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds very likely to continue over Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, and Tripura during next 24 hours and reduction thereafter.

-Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland 27 May

Central India:

– Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds very likely over Madhya Pradesh during next 3 days.

– Hailstorm very likely over East Madhya Pradesh on 27 May.

East India:

-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds winds very likely over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand during next 2 days.

-Heavy rainfall very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on 27 May.

South India:

-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds very likely over Kerala during next 5 days

-Similar rainfall pattern will prevail over Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh during next 5 days.

-Heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu on 27 May and over Kerala during 27 to 29 May, and over South Interior Karnataka on 29 May.
