ICC World Cup 2023: India win opening match against Australia by 6 wickets
India’s star batter Virat Kohli and Wicket Keeper KL Rahul restored the country’s hope for a win. The duo had a partnership of over 150 runs.
After the end of his magnificent knock, Virat Kohli departed from the field after scoring 85 runs.
On the other side, KL Rahul was short of 3 runs before he could add another century to his list. The wicket-keeper received the ‘Player of the Match.’
However, India was in a tight spot when openers Rohit Sharma, the captain and Ishan Kishan returned to the pavilion without scoring any runs for the country.
Another heartbreak for India came after Shbuman Gill’s replacement, Shreyas Iyer also departed back without any run. Australia’s Innings
Australia while opening their campaign for ICC World Cup 2023 had set a target of 200 runs for India. They were out all at 199. The last wicket was taken by Mohammed Siraj.
Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat on Sunday in the World Cup opener against India.
Ravindra Jadeja turned out to be a blessing for India by taking three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav dismissed two Australian players. Jaspreet Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough by taking the first wicket of the match.
Bumrah along with the first wicket sent another Australian player back to the pavilion. His wicket count stands at 2.
Ashwin, who was recently added to the India squad in place of injured Axar Patel was able to take one wicket.
Towards the end of the match, the ninth wicket of Australia was taken by Hardik Pandya. Adam Zampa’s catch was by India’s Virat Kohli.
