The 2022 edition of the ICC Women’s World kicked off today with New Zealand Women taking on West Indies Women in the tournament opener at Bay Oval Stadium in Mount Maunganui. A total of 8 teams are taking part in the competition.

The 8 teams are India Women, Pakistan Women, Australia Women, Bangladesh Women, New Zealand Women, South African Women, England Women, and West Indies Women. The tournament is being held in New Zealand.

Indian Women will begin their journey in the tournament on Sunday when they will take on arch-rival Pakistan. England is the defending champion of the tournament. England defeated India in the previous edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017. The Women’s World Cup was originally scheduled to take place last year but was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 is being played in a round-robin format. All 8 teams will face each other once during the tournament. The top four teams in the points table after the league stage will lock horns in the semi-final.
