“I would love to remake Space Jam!” – When Brittney Griner expressed her wish to remake Space Jam in an interview from 2014
Brittney Griner is one of the most popular female basketball players in the world. Standing at 6-foot-9, Griner is extremely dominant on both ends of the floor and has won numerous awards during her impressive career.
Back in 2014, a few months before winning her first WNBA championship, Griner expressed her wish to remake “Space Jam,” an iconic basketball movie. Instead of Michael Jordan, however, the WNBA player would be the main star of the movie.
“I would love to remake ‘Space Jam!'” Griner said in April 2014. “Oh my God, I would love to do it!”
Unfortunately, the eight-time WNBA All-Star did not get her wish. The movie eventually got its remake, but it starred LeBron James, arguably the second-best basketball player of all time.
Brittney Griner wanted to be in ‘Space Jam’ remake
“Space Jam” is a 1996 movie that features Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes characters. It’s an iconic movie that almost every basketball fan has watched at least once.
Besides Jordan, several other big-name basketball players appeared in the movie, including Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and Larry Bird.
Brittney Griner, who entered the WNBA in 2013, is another big fan of the iconic movie. Unfortunately, the Phoenix Mercury center hasn’t been involved in its 2021 remake by LeBron James.

Despite expressing her wish to be in the movie, Griner wasn’t selected for the remake. Instead, Diana Taurasi, her teammate, appeared in it. Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike also represented the WNBA in “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”
The remake featured several NBA players as well, including Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson.
Considering how much Griner loved the original movie, it is very unfortunate that she did not appear in the remake. However, there is a chance that we will get another “Space Jam” movie in the future and that the WNBA player stars in it.
Griner’s return to basketball
Brittney Griner has dealt with a lot of stress in the last 10 months. In February 2022, the WNBA star was detained in Russia and was eventually sentenced to nine years in prison.
