‘I feel he will be in’: Harbhajan Singh anticipates significant change in India’s World Cup 2023 squad
In accordance with the regulations set for the upcoming 2023 World Cup, teams are granted the opportunity to make adjustments to their squad until September 28.
Harbhajan Singh has made a bold prediction regarding the composition of Team India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup in 2023. According to Harbhajan, the talented off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will replace the left-arm spinner Axar Patel in the squad. Harbhajan believes that Ashwin’s impressive performance in his recent comeback series against Australia makes him a valuable addition to the team, bringing much-needed variety to the bowling attack.
It is worth noting that India’s decision to exclude any off-spinners from their squad for the 2023 World Cup came as a surprise to many. Instead, they opted for two left-arm spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, along with left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. However, Axar’s unfortunate left quadriceps strain during the Asia Cup has hindered his participation in crucial matches. He was unable to play in the tournament’s final and is currently sidelined for the ongoing ODI series against Australia.
During a discussion about Ashwin’s performance in the ongoing series against the Aussies, Harbhajan expressed his support for the experienced off-spinner. He firmly believes that Ashwin is the ideal candidate to replace Axar Patel in the 15-member World Cup squad.
“Ravichandran Ashwin has performed really well and I feel he will be in the World Cup squad. Teams can be changed before September 28 and I feel Axar Patel will be out as a variation will be added to the squad. Earlier, I felt they would play Washington Sundar because he was called to Sri Lanka before Ashwin,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
“They have gone with Ashwin because he has the experience. The rest of the team is solid and I hope that the good performances continue,” he added.
Ashwin took 3 wickets for 41 runs in seven overs, contributing to India’s impressive 99-run victory over Australia in the second ODI held in Indore, utilizing the DLS method.
