How To Enjoy Snacks While Keeping Calories In Check? Nutritionist Explains
Watching your favourite movie on a weekend with a pack of chips or chocolate by your side – sounds relaxing, right? Munching snacks is something we all love and can do any time of the day. But given the deliciousness of the chocolate cookies and the delectable taste of the pistachios, we often lose control and end up eating more than we should. This may sound normal but for those looking to lose some weight, going all in with the snacks can take you away from your fitness goal.
According to nutritionist Graeme Tomlinson, snacks are meant to be eaten in small quantities, In fact, it is important to focus on the portion size of your snacks. Through a series of photos on Instagram, the chef explained how we can still enjoy snacks while keeping them low in calories.
He said that loading 100 grams of cheese on 40 grams of toast is delicious, but can give you 511 calories. By cutting down the cheese here to 30 grams, you can still enjoy the cheesy toast and effectively reduce the calorie intake to 220. Check out his Insta post below.

The same goes for your breakfast where you can cut down the amount of granola and skimmed milk you are having and bring down the overall calories of the meal. The nutritionist added that this applies to everything from ice cream and protein bars to wine, chips, and yoghurt.
“If fat loss is the aim, understanding portion sizes may be a very useful tool to aid progress,” he insisted.
The nutritionist explained that it is crucial to align your eating habits with the science of fat loss to achieve the desired results. He says that main meals can be structured in a way that heavy snacks are not required and one must also realize that even small portions can satiate your cravings.
Graeme Tomlinson stressed that understanding your energy take is “not obsessive” but “simply the most enlightening way to educate yourself on the relationship between your food behaviours and the scientific principle behind the success of your goal”.
