How One Vogue Editor Gets Dressed for a Fall Getaway Upstate
In today’s edition of What I Wore This Week, Julie Tong shares her past five days—it’s a series of fall knit dresses, shearling jackets, cable-knit sweaters, and, yes, Birkenstocks.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for obvious reasons. The weather is crisp and breezy, making sweaters both the perfect indoor and outdoor garment to wear; it’s when the leaves start to change, kicking off a season of leaf-peeping, apple picking, and fall getaways.
After nearly two years of working remotely at home, I’ve yearned to escape Brooklyn from time to time—the daily grind of Slack, Zooms, emails, and seemingly endless workdays. I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle and be enveloped in a place where time appeared to slow down, a place where digital screens are the minority, and sweeping forests are the majority.
I spent the past week in the Catskills to relax, catch up on much-needed R&R, and most importantly, to celebrate my seven-year anniversary with beau, Matthew. We stayed at the newly opened Piaule boutique hotel, where glamping takes on a whole new level. Its modular designed cabins offer sweeping views of forest trees, all with a minimalist, Japanese meets Scandinavian architectural design. I was in heaven.
Ahead, a breakdown of my outfits during my picturesque fall getaway.
