How Kaya Scodelario Gets Ready for The Fashion Awards Eight and a Half Months Pregnant

Going to an awards show is an unlikely event for any eight and a half month pregnant woman to attend, but actor Kaya Scodelario was prepared for the Fashion Awards in London. “I’m hoping I don’t go into labor,” she tells Vogue in a new video. “But if I do, [it] wouldn’t be the worst thing to show up in full glam to the labor ward.” Her husband was waiting near the Royal Albert Hall in London with the hospital bags, just in case.

But all went smoothly for Scodelario. She wore a silver Bora Aksu dress and Gina heels for a “pregnant nutcracker” vibe. “I didn’t want to do a stereotypical maternity dress, as you can see,” she says. “Definitely not for the British Fashion Awards. I wanted something fun and edgy. Kate Moss is my idol, so I tried to imagine what she would wear to the Fashion Awards.” The mini baby doll dress featured layers of metallic silver fabric and tulle, voluminous sleeves tied with bows at the shoulder, and a plunging neckline (we think Moss would be proud). Scodelario layered on the sparkle with bedazzled platform shoes and Cartier jewels. More is more at the Fashion Awards!

While makeup artist Gina Kane applied smokey eye makeup and a nude lip and hairstylist Eamonn Hughes curled her hair into starlet-worthy waves, Scodelario reminisced on attending the BAFTAs with the Skins cast in 2009. She and co-star Hannah Murray then picked up the Radio Times Audience Award, and realized that the show they were on had become a sensation. “We didn’t know how popular it was, internationally, especially,” she says. Of what sets British awards shows apart, Scodelario says, “The British ones are fun; there’s more booze,” she says, laughing. “I can’t drink tonight, so it’ll be my first sober awards show.”

As the glam team put the finishing touches on Scodelario’s look, which was styled by Leith Clark, the actor tried to make her plans for the evening. “I think I may turn into a pumpkin at midnight,” she says. But it’s up to one person in particular: “It depends on the baby, if she wants to party or not.”
