How GM plans to use ChatGPT in its vehicles – Times of India
The news was first reported by the website Semafor. GM is reportedly developing its own AI assistant using OpenAI’s technology and Microsoft’s Azure cloud service. General Motors manufactures Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC cars and trucks.
How GM plans to use ChatGPT
Miller said that the chatbot could push things beyond voice commands currently used in vehicles. It may help drivers offer information about their vehicle’s features. The chatbot could be used to access information on how to use vehicle features normally found in a vehicles’ manual, programme functions such as a garage door code or integrate schedules from a calendar, Miller said. The company said that the shift is not just about one single capability like the evolution of voice commands, but instead means that customers can expect their future vehicles to be far more capable and fresh overall when it comes to emerging technologies.
The AI assistant may enable drivers to simply ask the car what to do when there is a fault, and it will guide them through the process. The version of AI assistant in GM cars will reportedly behave differently than ChatGPT or Bing Chat. This is, as per the report, because GM is working on adding another, more car-specific layer on top of the OpenAI models known for answering any question, often with unpredictable results.
GM partnership with Microsoft
GM in 2021 partnered with Microsoft to accelerate the commercialization of driverless vehicles. Cruise and General Motors announced that they have entered a long-term strategic relationship with Microsoft to accelerate the commercialization of self-driving vehicles. The companies will bring together their software and hardware engineering excellence, cloud computing capabilities, manufacturing know-how and partner ecosystem to transform transportation to create a safer, cleaner and more accessible world for everyone.
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a multi-billion dollar investment in ChatGPT-owner OpenAI and said it aims to add the chatbot’s technology into all its products.
