Eve has no trouble tapping into that vibe, and her familiarity with the show’s subject matter meant that she and her co-stars were ready to provide plenty of input about costumes and visuals. “We probably got on people’s last nerves, but we wanted everything to feel authentic,” says Eve. “We’re all such sticklers about the details. If people are coming to this show because they were fans of us back then, they’re going to expect it all to look authentic. It was such a special time within all genres of music and in fashion. I hope that we were able to provide nostalgia and make it feel genuine. We needed to get it right. If we hadn’t, people would let us know—the internet doesn’t let you get away with anything!”
Costume designer Provi Fulp Ramphal was eager to put the group’s input to good use. It shows in their sultry performance looks, which feature pieces from Roberto Cavalli, Versace, and Tom Ford-era Gucci. Still, Eve was equally impressed by the accuracy of the off-duty style. “It’s so funny, but I love her parenting look because that was real,” says the star, who announced she was expecting her first child with husband Maximillian Cooper earlier this week. “I’m in sweats with a stain on them, the hair is in a ponytail, she could care less when you see her in that outfit, but then when she becomes Professor Sex, there is such a beautiful transformation, we [all] became superheroes.
Eve remembers her vintage fashions fondly, which delights her 17-year-old step-daughter. Like many Gen-Zers, she is in love with the aesthetics of the late ’90s and early 2000s. “The other day, she said to me, ‘oh my god, I have to get this Juicy Couture sweatsuit they sell at Urban Outfitters,’ and I was like ‘Jesus Christ,’” she says with a laugh. “It’s incredible, she and her friends have embraced [the 2000s], and it has become such a part of their style. I didn’t have any old Juicy sweatsuits in my closet, but I could have told her all about Juicy!”
