The Miami Heat have the second-best odds to get Kyrie Irving and Brian Windhorst has named them as an option to get the Nets star.
The Heat have had a semi-disappointing season up to this point. They are currently 29-24 and seem stuck in a place where they really don’t have a good chance to contend in the East playoffs. A trade for an All-NBA player like Irving could give them a solid chance to redeem themselves after last year’s Eastern Conference Finals loss.
How can the Miami Heat trade for Kyrie Irving?
For salary purposes, the Heat have a lot of ways of getting to matching salary for Irving. Miami has vets and one tradeable pick to be able to shop around the league or trade straight up for Irving in a deal.
Kyle Lowry’s contract has been flouted around the league, and while the player has been dismissed in talent this season, he still is worth some value.
Add in Caleb Martin’s $6 million this season and you have enough tradeable salary to make a deal for Irving.
Additionally, the Heat could look to shop Lowry to the Clippers (they need Lowry to play a specific role while the Nets need solid vets overall) or another team in a deal to acquire vets to make a deal look attractive for the Nets.
The Heat can offer a first this year or next and are able to offer first-round picks after 2026. Based on the market, it will take two firsts+ players in any given trade with the Nets at the most.
The Heat might not end up with Irving, but certainly, with the way the season has gone for the Heat, Pat Riley must consider a trade for Irving.
If the Heat are able to trade for Irving, a deal will most likely involve Lowry as Robinson’s contract has too many years at too big of a price for the Nets or another team to take on his deal.
Tyler Herro will be mentioned in a deal, but using him in a deal for a potential rental might be not worth giving up his long-term deal. His poison pill also makes it complicated for a deal.
