How Amanda Seyfried Got Ready for the Los Angeles Premiere of ‘The Dropout’

In Hulu’s The Dropout, Amanda Seyfried deftly channels disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and her specific brand of beauty (hastily finger-raked updos, blowouts, red lips). But for last night’s Los Angeles premiere, the actor’s look was more in step with her own glamour—Old Hollywood foundations threaded with touches of contemporary cool. To enhance the appeal of Seyfried’s velveteen Oscar De La Renta frock, makeup artist Genevieve Herr created a shimmering cobalt eye moment, with diamond hoops and luminous skin lending to the dusky sky vibe.

“This mini felt very Amanda to me—very fun and fresh but with a couture vibe—and the fact that Genevieve was inspired by the color cinched the deal,” says stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who helped Seyfried prep at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. Using a collection of Lancôme products, Herr offset the bold blue shadow with an understated pink lip. A smokey edging of Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Lapis along the upper lashline served as a jumping-off point for the darkest shade of Lancôme’s Bleu Hypnôtique eyeshadow palette, all finished with generous swipes of mascara.

“The best part is that Amanda is always excited to try new ideas,” says Herr. “And the hair artist, Robert Vetica, was going for a mod ’60s vibe, so the collaborative efforts of team Amanda turned out to be an unforgettable red carpet moment!” Along with the cloudlike shoulder that floated on a modish silhouette and some silver accessories, Seyfried’s aesthetic evoked a beautifully star-spangled, slightly stormy evening.

Here, Seyfried shares a look at more details from her pre-premiere prep.
