Former NSW Blues hard man Paul Gallen has stayed true to his word – packing the victorious Queensland team bus while decked out in a Maroons scarf and cane toad beanie after losing a bet to fellow Origin great Darren Lockyer.

In hilarious scenes, Gallen, 40 – who made 24 appearances for his state in a glittering career – was spotted in his hastily borrowed attire at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

The retired rugby league star turned heavyweight boxer was supremely confident Brad Fittler’s men would get the job done in the decider – but was left egg on his face after yet another Queensland masterclass in front of their adoring fans.

Gallen, who infamously declared Maroons supporters have ‘two heads’ in 2014, accepted his fate and diligently packed the bus with a number of suitcases.

Footage was uploaded to TikTok not long after fulltime, and is approaching 300,000 views.

Many footy fans were impressed at Gallen’s good nature – and applauded him for not backing out of the bet details.

‘He is honouring the bet…good man,’ one said, with another supporter stating ‘I didn’t like Gallen before this, but now he has my respect.’

In what is now rugby league folklore, Gallen became a despised figure in the Sunshine State following his ‘two heads’ slur at a league lunch.

What many people don’t know is that Gallen was approached by the NRL to be an Origin villain before a ball was kicked – he then received a portion of the substantial revenue.

‘I honestly laugh at it, I cannot believe the amount of turmoil [the two-heads comment] has caused,’ he said at the time.

‘I was probably giving the Queenslanders a rap on how much they get behind their team. It was a joke, I said it laughing and I just laugh at the amount people talk about it.’

Gallen had the last laugh in 2014, guiding the Blues to a 2-1 win where he was named player of the series.

It also saw Queensland’s eight-year interstate dominance come to an end. 

The hard-nosed prop then won a historic NRL premiership with Cronulla two years later before turning his attention to boxing.

Despite an army of critics, Gallen’s record in the ring is impressive, with just two defeats from 15 bouts.
