‘He’s holding us back’: USMNT fans want Gregg Berhalter FIRED after World Cup exit to Holland – with his use of Gio Reyna and Brendan Aaronson SLAMMED by frustrated supporters
USA fans are calling for Gregg Berhalter to be fired as coach after the team’s exit from the World Cup on Saturday.
The USA side were dumped out of the tournament with a 3-1 defeat by Holland, abruptly ending the growing sense of optimism around a young and talented team.
Holland needed just 10 minutes to go ahead through Memphis Depay. Daley Blind doubled the lead but when Haji Wright pulled a goal back, there was hope of a USA fightback.

The USA were beaten 3-1 by Holland and fans were critical of Berhalter’s setup with the team
Some said Berhalter was holding the team back and wanted to see Reyna and Aaronson more
It lasted just five minutes, when Denzel Dumfries scored Holland’s third to book a place in the quarterfinal.
And in the aftermath of the game, fans were calling for a change of coach to bring the best out of the team in time for the 2026 World Cup, where USA is a co-host alongside Mexico and Canada.
High on the list of concerns from US fans was Berhalter’s use of Gio Reyna and Brendan Aaronson. The Dortmund star Reyna surprisingly didn’t start one game, but was thrown on at half-time against Holland. He otherwise played the last seven minutes against England.
Aaronson, meanwhile, made four straight substitute appearances in Qatar with Berhalter mainly opting for a three-man midfield in the tournament with Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie and captain Tyler Adams.

‘Why doesn’t Berhalter start Reyna and Aaronson?’ one fan put on Twitter. ‘They’re USMNT’s most talented players, more so than even Pulisic.’
Another wrote: ‘(Jesus) Pereira had no business being out there today, berhalter needs to explain to me why he was so reluctant to start Reyna or Aaronson at All!!!!’.
On a wider level, some fans felt Berhalter’s tactics hindered the team in Qatar.
‘I firmly believe the USMNT has gotten where it is in spite of Berhalter, not because of him. He’s holding us back,’ one supporter said.
Another view was: ‘ Louis van Gaal (the Holland coach) had a masterclass today, not hat we gave him much to think about.’
Berhalter said it was a difficult result to take and praised his team’s effort during the World Cup
For his part, Berhalter admitted the loss would be hard to take.
‘This is a difficult one to handle, it’s such a good group of guys, such a close group of guys and we came up short today but not for a lack of trying, not for a lack of effort,’ Berhalter said.
‘I think the guys poured everything they had into this game and unfortunately we lost it.’
