Here’s why Elon Musk changing his ‘pronouns’ irked people on Twitter – Times of India

Elon Musk, who has been on the receiving end of criticism for his stance on Covid-19, has once again found himself in the crosshairs. The Twitter owner made a call to criminally prosecute Dr Anthony Stephen Fauci, who is the chief medical advisor to the President of the US, triggering a social media firestorm.
“My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci,” Musk first tweeted followed by a meme in which Dr Fauci is seen asking US President Joe Biden to impose “Just one more lockdown my king.” Dr Fauci is set to retire this month as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the US. He has been credited for encouraging people to get the Covid-19 vaccine and booster doses as soon as possible.
Musk irks Twitterati
Scott Kelly, a former NASA astronaut and retired US Navy captain called out Musk saying that he should not mock and “promote hate towards” the marginalised LGBTQ+ community by using ‘pronouns’ so loosely. He also said Dr Fauci “is a dedicated public servant whose sole motivation was saving lives.”

Kelly was raising his concerns because Musk not only sought Dr Fauci’s prosecution but also made fun of “pronouns”. Sharing one’s own pronouns on social media is a way to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Countering Kelly, Musk said, “I strongly disagree. Forcing your pronouns upon others when they didn’t ask, and implicitly ostracising those who don’t, is neither good nor kind to anyone. As for Fauci, he lied to Congress and funded gain-of-function research that killed millions of people. Not awesome imo.”

Apart from Kelly, Former CIA director and Barack Obama White House official John Brennan also said that Dr Fauci “is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health. Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions. You may have money, but you have no class.”
Twitter users give Musk ‘pronouns’
Several internet users also criticised Musk. “My pronouns are he/him. Because I refuse to mock people who are risking their safety and lives to openly live life on their terms. History will not be kind to those who were cruel and disrespectful to trans folks. And I hope I’m alive long enough to see and enjoy it,” a user said.
While one user wrote, “Cool, mine are Defund/Elon,” another one said, “Your adjectives are sociopathic/moronic.”

American TV host Jimmy Kimmel replied to Musk’s comments saying, “your pronouns are ass and hole.” YouTuber Zack Nelson, who has JerryRigEverything tech channel on YouTube, tagged Apple CEO Tim Cook and asked, “Hey @tim_cook, is this where you wanna spend @Apple advertising money?”

Recently, Musk announced that Apple resumed advertising with Twitter.
