Here are some key cities in India set to hold yoga day events today on the occasion of the 9th International Yoga Day
What adds to the significance of this ceremony is the fact that it was at the UN headquarters where PM Modi initially proposed the observance of this special day in 2014. This marks the first time Modi will be participating in such an event abroad, having previously led Yoga Day celebrations in various cities in India, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Dehradun, Ranchi, and Mysore.
Yoga Day Celebrations in India
The main event of this highly important occasion will take place in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where a mass yoga demonstration will be led by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, accompanied by other dignitaries.
In the capital city of Delhi, the International Yoga Day celebrations will be organized across 26 prominent sites. These include iconic locations such as the Red Fort, Connaught Place Central Park, Kartavya Path, Commonwealth Games Complex, as well as major green spaces like Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, and Coronation Park. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Smriti Irani will be attending events in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will partake in yoga activities on the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in Kochi, and Nitin Gadkari will be present at an event in Nagpur, Maharashtra.Various Union ministers will also be participating in events held in different parts of the country. Narendra Singh Tomar will be in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh; Piyush Goyal in Mumbai; Dharmendra Pradhan in Odisha; Kiren Rijiju in Arunachal Pradesh, and Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal will be in Panaji, Goa.Furthermore, a series of 20 grand events have been planned across Jammu and Kashmir, with the main affairs taking place in Srinagar and Jammu.
Adoption of International Yoga Day
It is worth noting that June 21 was designated as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014. Since then, the annual observance has gained tremendous popularity worldwide, promoting the practice of yoga for holistic well-being and fostering unity among nations.
As the ninth International Day of Yoga approaches, people around the globe eagerly await the mass yoga demonstration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UN headquarters, highlighting the transformative power and universal appeal of this ancient practice.
