Has getting India cap hampered Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan’s performance? Sunil Gavaskar says THIS
Soon after the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will begin in the UAE and Oman. While some teams have already started flying to the country, the members of the Indian team, who are already in the UAE, will be seen in action again for the ICC tournament.
While the BCCI had already announced the Team India squad for the World Cup, the ICC has given time for the sides to make changes if required. According to the ICC rules, a team can make changes in its squad till October 10.
And currently, seeing the form of certain players in the IPL – who are part of the World Cup – one would want the BCCI to make some changes.
Team India squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant(w), Ishan Kishan(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.
Reserves: Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur
Players like Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have not been performing to their full potential for Mumbai Indians (MI) as the side is currently seventh on the IPL’s points table. In fact, Kishan was dropped was Mumbai’s squad in the last game and might not get a chance next.
Talking about the issue, former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar opened up on the rusty form of Mumbai batters SKY and Kishan. Gavaskar stated that both the batters have got relaxed after getting the India cap and are making the wrong choice of shots.
“I think it looks to me like, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have just relaxed a little bit after getting the India cap. They might not have, but some of the shots they are playing – it looks like they are trying to play these big shots just because they are India players.
“Sometimes what happens is, you gotta give yourself a little bit of time, and you gotta get your shot selection right. And I think that is where they have missed this time around, where their shot selection has not been exactly correct, and that’s why they’ve got out cheaply,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
Not just that, Gavaskar also threw light on Hardik Pandya’s inability to take up the ball. Gavaskar had stated that if Pandya isn’t able to bowl, it is a big blow for the Indian side.
“Hardik Pandya, not bowling is a big blow, not just for Mumbai Indians, but for India as well, because he was taken in the team as an all-rounder. And if you are in the team, batting at No.6 or No.7, and you’re not able to bowl, then it makes it difficult for the captain. He doesn’t get the flexibility and option, that is so required for somebody batting atNo.6 or 7 like an all-rounder,” he added.
