Haryana U-19 win Vinoo Mankad title

Opener Mayank Shandilya anchored the chase with an unbeaten 81 as Haryana beat Maharashtra by six wickets to win the U-19 national One-day championship for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Monday. Batting first, Maharashtra managed 172 in 50 overs with new-ball bowlers Vivek Kumar (3/33) and Garv Sangwan (3/44) sharing bulk of the spoils. In reply, Haryana rode on Shandilya’s patient 150-ball knock and his 124-run stand with skipper Nishant Sindhu (64 off 99 balls) to win the match with seven balls to spare.

Ansu Fati is quickly becoming Barcelona’s go-to player in the absence of Lionel Messi. The 18-year-old Fati made his first start for Barcelona after a long injury layoff on Sunday, scoring a goal and earning his team a penalty as the Catalan club halted their losing streak by rallying to beat Valencia 3-1 in the Spanish league. Lanka’s first Test captain Warnapura dies at 68
Sri Lanka’s first-ever Test cricket captain, Bandula Warnapura, died at the age of 68 at a hospital here today. Warnapura had his right leg amputated earlier this month after being diagnosed with high sugar levels, which hindered his blood circulation. An opening batsman, Warnapura was also a medium-pace bowler. He led Sri Lanka in their maiden Test match in February 1982 against England. Agencies
