Harry Kane’s penalty miss vs France was a carbon copy of one he missed for Spurs just TWO months ago
Lightning DOES strike twice! Harry Kane’s second penalty vs France was a carbon copy of one he missed for Tottenham against Frankfurt two months earlier – but Three Lions star concedes he ‘couldn’t fault his preparation’
Harry Kane missed penalty during England’s 2-1 World Cup defeat to France was a carbon copy of one he missed for Tottenham Hotspur just two months ago.
Spurs defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the Champions League on October 12 and the England captain, in eerily similar circumstances to Saturday night’s quarterfinal game, scored one penalty before sending his second spot-kick over the bar.
It seems lightning does strike twice, with Kane this time beating his Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris to draw the game against France level at 1-1.

The England forward was then given another opportunity to equalise for england after Olivier Giroud’s header put France ahead 2-1.
Kane stepped up to take the penalty, but as he did before for Tottenham sent the ball over the cross bar.
While there was a lot more riding on Saturday’s result, Kane’s previous penalty miss for Tottenham did not affect the overall outcome of the game, with Spurs going on to win 3-2.
Yet, the 29-year-old, who could have edged Wayne Rooney to become England’s all-time leading goalscorer had he scored his second penalty, has scored 58 of the 69 spot-kicks he’s taken during his illustrious domestic and international careers.
After the match, the England captain wore the responsibility for what is just the 11th miss of his career, conceding that he ‘couldn’t fault his preparation’ in the run up to the match.

‘I’m always someone who prepares for if I get one penalty in the game, two penalties, I always have an idea of what I want to do,’ Kane told ITV after the game.
‘I can’t fault my preparation or any thing like that the details it was just the execution on the night.
‘The first one was great and the second one, I just didn’t hit it quite how I wanted to. That’s something that I’m going to have to take on the chin and it’ll hurt for sure.’
Kane was fouled on the edge of the penalty area in a contentious tackle by Dayot Upamecano
Despite the result, England can hold their heads high after a brilliant performance against France where they were subject to a few contentious refereeing decisions from Wilton Sampaio.
The striker was at the heart of one of those decisions when French defender Dayot Upamecano fouled him just on the edge of the penalty area, which should have been a free-kick.
Yet, Gareth Southgate’s side we’re left heartbroken and Kane expressed his pride at how well his team had performed throughout the tournament.
‘The whole game will hurt because we had full belief in what we were trying to achieve. But as the captain I’ll take that. But yeah, I couldn’t be prouder of the boys.’
‘I’m proud of the boys. We had a great camp, a great World Cup and like I said it came down to a small detail that I’ll take responsibility for.’
