Harry Kane insists Tottenham are trying to ‘look forward’ after Antonio Conte departure

Harry Kane has admitted that he and Tottenham players don’t want to ‘look at the past’ following the sacking of Antonio Conte.

Conte left Spurs on March 26 after an extraordinary rant targeting his players the the club hierarchy.

He has been succeeded, at least temporarily, by former assistant Cristian Stellini, but it is understood Spurs will look to appoint a permanent manager soon.

Kane was asked about the Italian’s departure on Sky Sports before his side’s game against Everton on Monday, and insisted he wanted to look forwards rather than backwards. 

‘He had his opinions on the matter and obviously it was an emotional moment after a disappointing end to that game,’ he said of Conte’s rant after the 3-3 draw against Southampton.

Kane admitted ’emotions were high’ when Conte lashed out at his players two weeks ago

‘I don’t want to get into it too much. We’re focused on trying to achieve the top four.

‘We can’t look at the past, we have to start now and look at these games ahead of us and that’s what we’ll try to do.’

Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League and still chasing a Champions League spot despite their inconsistent form under Conte.

They faced Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night in their first game since Conte’s departure half-way through the international break.

It has emerged, meanwhile, that Daniel Levy and Conte contemplated trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo last year before ultimately deciding against making a move for the then Manchester United star.

Sportsmail’s Ian Ladyman has revealed that Tottenham were one of the clubs that thought about making an approach when Ronaldo was trying to leave United.

Levy will often sit at the coach’s table in the canteen at the Spurs training ground and it is here where the informal talks took place.
