Haqqani Network says won’t meddle in Kashmir
Kashmir is beyond its “jurisdiction” and any meddling there would contravene its policy, the outfit’s scion Anas Haqqani told CNN-News18 in an interview. ‘Others’ should also stay away from meddling in Afghanistan’s affairs, he added by way of a reminder.
“We don’t want anyone to think wrong about us. India has helped our enemy for 20 years but we are ready to forget everything,” Anas said.
Afghanistan wanted a “good relationship with India”, Anas Haqqani said. Haqqani Network is “ready to forget everything and take the relationship forward,” he added.
Anas is the youngest son of the late Jalaluddin Haqqani, the founder of the network. The Haqqani Network is an insurgent group that has been on the side of the Taliban since 1995.
Haqqani’s statement came even as the last of the US forces trooped out of the war-torn nation, marking the end of the bloody, 20-year war. It closely followed Taliban leader Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai’s feelers to India on the likely road-ahead.
Everyone is safe in Afghanistan, Anas said, allaying apprehensions that Indians stuck in the war-torn nation could become soft targets.
Anas also sought to distance himself and the network from Pakistan’s policy on Kashmir. He dismissed as “propaganda by Indian media” all talks of the network’s association with Pakistan-backed JeM and LeT.
