Gunna Went to the Diamond District’s Favorite Celeb Jeweler for His Met Gala Drip
New York City’s Diamond District is eerily quiet on the day before the Met Gala. As it’s Sunday, most of the jewelry stores are closed, with their window cases cleared out, aside from a lonely shop or two on the strip. The rapper Gunna, however, is on the balcony of the Eliantte & Co. penthouse in the middle of the block on West 47th Street, slowly smoking a blunt in a white denim set with a silk Pucci scarf tied around his neck, waiting for Eliantte and his associates to finish cleaning his impressive collection of jewels. He’s wearing two diamond bead necklaces (one of Eliantte’s signatures), and he reveals one of his favorite pieces of jewelry by pushing back his top lip, revealing a blue stone P set in one of his premolars. Pushing P is a lifestyle that clearly extends everywhere—even his teeth.
Even if it wasn’t a Sunday, celebrity jeweler Elliot Eliantte’s business wouldn’t be a part of the bazaar-like atmosphere that defines the rest of the block. Eliantte’s meeting rooms are by appointment only and, according to their website, they’re not taking any right now. But the Atlanta rapper always brings along his Cuban link diamond chains, diamond-studded Cartier watches, and blue gemstone rings whenever he’s in New York City. Eliantte is the only place he trusts for all of his jewelry needs, whether he’s asking him for a custom piece, looking to buy something new, or, in today’s case, getting a much-needed cleaning and tune-up before the Met Gala.
Gunna seems uncannily psychic when it comes to both his Met Gala appearance and his jewelry. In his 2020 song “Met Gala,” Gunna says he “Walks in with that drip/Met Gala ball.” Two years later, he’s finally done it. A day after we met in Eliantte’s penthouse, he appeared on the red carpet in a custom Thom Browne look, puppy purse on his hip, with a few pieces of simple jewelry to accessorize. He ended up choosing a custom, diamond-encrusted Ledger crypto wallet on his neck, a chain, Cartier glasses, and an Eliantte ring set with a massive blue gemstone. “Less is more,” Gunna says of his Met Gala drip plan.
