Goyal calls on Indian businesses to build ties with Canada
New Delhi: Commerce minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday urged Indian businesses to focus on quality, scale, design, and packaging to win the trust of Canadian consumers and businesses, said Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday.
Speaking at the Trade and Investment Promotion Event for the Agricultural and Food Processing sector with Indian companies and Canadian importers on the sidelines of SIAL-2023 in Toronto, Canada, Goyal stressed that businesses should prioritise building relationships, partnerships, collaboration, learning, technology, and innovation to achieve shared prosperity for people across the world.
Goyal highlighted the potential for growth in the expansion of business and engagement between Canada and India, particularly in the value addition of food products, which is a priority area.
He called the food industry a “high profile, high profits, and high growth sunrise sector” that directly impacts agriculture in India by adding value to farmers‘ products and encouraging diversification of crops, fruits, and vegetables.
The minister praised the participation of Indian businesses at SIAL 2023, saying that it showcased India to the world. Goyal suggested that World Food India, to be held in November, could serve as the platform to showcase the best of India and collaborate with businesses across the world.
He also highlighted the multifold growth potential in the bilateral trade of India-Canada in the food industry. He urged Canadian companies to visit India and join sectoral engagements being organized across the country under India’s G20 Presidency, while inviting them to hold Board meetings in India.
The minister noted that as India grows as an economy in the next 25 years, Canadian businesses are invited to be a part of India’s growth journey.
