Govt launches Mission Karmayogi, mid-career training programmes
New Delhi: Union minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said that the central government has initiated Mission Karmayogi and mid-career training programme.
The aim of these initiatives is to train officers and equip them to contribute to the development of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) by making optimal use of new technology.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 49th advanced professional programme in public administration (APPPA) at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Singh highlighted the government’s efforts in implementing the ease of doing business (EoDB) and ease of governance initiatives. These efforts aim to facilitate the delivery of citizen-centric services for the welfare of the common man.
The minister emphasized that the government amended the prevention of corruption act in 2018 after 30 years to ensure that both the bribe giver and the recipient are subject to punishment. He stressed the government’s commitment to maintaining zero tolerance towards corruption while providing an enabling work environment that allows individuals to maximize their potential and capabilities.
Mission Karmayogi is designed to provide world-class capacity building opportunities to all government officials based on the key principle of “role-based” rather than “rule-based” and “competency-based” learning. The programme aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government servants in fulfilling their roles.
Furthermore, the government has revamped the format of the PM Excellence Awards to focus on outcomes and targets achieved in the implementation of flagship programs. As part of their training, officer trainees will be required to submit dissertations on these flagship programs.
Highlighting the rapidly evolving global landscape, Singh emphasized the need for officers to keep pace with the changing environment. He acknowledged the significant role that emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence play, particularly in the defence forces.
The 49th Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA) is a specialized ten-month course tailored for senior officers of the All India and central services, including the defence services and state civil services. The programme aligns with the government’s priorities and the National Development Agenda.
The Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) has successfully conducted 48 similar programmes, training 1,620 administrators and officers from All-India and Central Services, including armed forces personnel, as well as participants from foreign countries, Indian university professors, and officers from state civil services.
