Gorden Tallis calls on Roosters coach Trent Robinson to use DAD TEST before risking Victor Radley

Gorden Tallis has urged Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson not to risk Victor Radley in the club’s huge NRL final round clash against Souths and has called on the mentor to employ the ‘dad test’ on his star forward.

Robinson may be tempted to play Radley after fellow forward Lindsay Collins copped a grade three dangerous contact charge and a four-week ban for his hip drop tackle on Melbourne forward Tom Eisenhuth.

Radley was left convulsing on the deck at AAMI Park during the Roosters 18-14 victory over the Melbourne Storm on Friday night, treated on the field and stretchered off with a suspected concussion.

Radley is an important player for the Roosters and was playing well until he was injured

He suffered a major head knock in a tackle on Storm captain Jesse Bromwich in the 71st minute of the clash.

Radley also suffered a nasty cut after a head clash with Brisbane’s Jake Turpin earlier this month.

In relieving scenes, he was able to come back onto the field to celebrate with teammates after the match on Friday.

The Roosters can finish the regular NRL season as high as fifth on the ladder depending on other results and may be in a position to knock bitter rivals Souths out of the top eight when they open the new Allianz Stadium.

However Tallis has called on Robinson to rest Radley, even if he passes NRL concussion protocols.

‘This is the pub test, the dad test,’ he said.

‘Say if that’s your son, give him a week off. If that was my son and it happened to him and I’m the coach, you don’t play next week, you can play the week after.’

Fellow commentator and former Bronco Corey Parker started to say that the Roosters would go through the protocols, but Tallis interjected.

‘No, no, no. Coaches make decisions to win. Dad’s make decisions for the health of their kids,’ he said.

‘That’s why it has to go to a dad test, not a coach test.

‘There’s plenty of coaches – and we can all sit and do it – [say] he’ll be right, get back out there. It’s happened all my life and it will keep happening because it is a result-driven business.

‘The Roosters do it well, but do the dad test on anybody that gets injured.’

‘I agree with you but there’s no team in the competition that does it better,’ he said.

‘They’ve had Keary, they’ve had Lindsay Collins, they’ll do the same thing with Victor if needed. If not, we’ll just push on.’

It comes after Tallis lashed Robinson for not commenting on the Collins incident that forced Eisenhuth from the field.

Robinson defended Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who was sin-binned for sparking a wild melee and out on report twice. He will escape suspension with an early guilty plea.

‘I can’t really say much about that can I?’ Robinson said of the Collins hip drop tackle in the post-match media conference.

‘It is not for me to sort of go into.’

Former NRL star and Fox Sports analyst Gorden Tallis questioned why Robinson would not talk about the Waerea-Hargreaves tackle and consequent sin-binning in Friday night’s win

Tallis said it was ‘a bit weird’ that Robinson would not comment on that tackle when the Roosters coach was outspoken about other NRL issues.

‘I talk to Trent on radio and he has always got an opinion on a lot of stuff that happens,’ Tallis said.

‘It was a simple question. Yeah he has got nothing to worry about or he has got something to worry about.

‘It is as simple as that. He saw it.

‘As a coach it was just strange because he has normally got an opinion on everything.

‘He had an opinion on the Manly jerseys. He has got an opinion on everything and just then he just chose to be quiet.

‘It is just a tackle in the game. Bit weird’
