Google TV may have a restricted mode to prevent certain adult content from automatically playing – Times of India
Google is reportedly developing a new feature for Google TV dubbed as restricted mode. The feature will filter out adult content and will prevent it from automatically playing. It was spotted by 9to5Google in the latest update to the Android TV launcher.
Restricted mode feature, however, may have some clause attached to it. As per the report, it appears to be effective only on ad-supported free movies and TV shows. The list includes trailers as well. In order to unlock this setting, users will need to use a PIN.
Strings in the launcher’s new update also hint at additional free content that may be offered to the users. At present, Google TV allows one to stream over 300 live TV channels for free. The update mentions “Google TV Channels,” which could be in reference to free content.
Another feature discovered by 9to5Google is a watchlist section for kids profiles on Google TV. At present, there is no way for children to add content to a dedicated destination on their home screen. The upcoming feature may allow users to create a watchlist section for kids profiles. To recall, the kids profile was introduced in March 2021. Once enabled, parents will be able to control what kind of apps and content can be consumed on the Google TV platform.
Meanwhile, Google is reportedly working on a new Chromecast with Google TV device, according to the documentation spotted by the 9to5Google website. Google launched its first Chromecast with Google TV in 2020. As per the documentation, Google is working on an Android-powered device codenamed Boreal. 9to5Google reported that their APK insight team has confirmed that the codename is connected to Google TV Chromecast software for Android which basically powers the Chromecast with Google TV.
