Google reportedly testing new Lens shortcut for PCs – Times of India

Google is reportedly testing a new Google Lens shortcut for PC users. As per a report by 9to5Google, the tech giant is planning to add a new shortcut in the Google Search bar. As of now, the Google Lens feature on a PC can be accessed from the browser’s context menu. The report reveals that a few users have received the feature as part of A/B testing. The users are reportedly seeing the Google Lens icon in the search box right next to the microphone button.
The report further reveals that when you tap on the new icon, you will be able to see an image picker window. You can either drag and drop or manually upload the image that you want to search through the picker window. Once you search an image using the new icon, you will be able to see the uploaded images on the left side and relevant search results on the right side. As per the report, you will also be able to crop and search for a specific section of the image just like the mobile version.
As the feature is still under development, it is not available to many users but it is expected that the company will officially roll out the new shortcut soon.
Google is also reportedly working on a new design in the Google Search app. According to a previous report by 9to5Google, the company is planning to change the design for Search’s image viewer. The report suggests that the new user interface will be a part of the Material You design language and it will also work with the dynamic theming system of the latest Android 12 operating system. The report claims that the tech giant has started to roll out the redesigned image viewer UI to some users on the Android app and the mobile web version as well. However, the company has not officially revealed anything about the design change.
