Google Pixel 7a with Tensor G2 chipset makes a grand debut in India. Here’s price, specs and more
Google has unveiled the Google Pixel 7a during its I/O 2023 developer event, introducing it alongside other Pixel devices such as the Pixel Fold foldable and the Pixel Tablet. While maintaining its position in Google’s cost-effective A-series smartphone range, the Pixel 7a received notable enhancements. The smartphone showcases a fresh design inspired by the high-end Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models, along with upgraded hardware including a new processor, improved cameras, and the addition of features like wireless charging.
Google Pixel 7a: Price in India
In India, the Pixel 7a will be offered in a variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It carries a price tag of Rs. 43,999 and will be sold exclusively on Flipkart starting from May 11. As a special launch promotion, customers using HDFC Bank cards can avail an instant discount of Rs. 4,000, resulting in an effective price of Rs. 39,999. The Pixel 7a will be offered in three color options: Charcoal, Snow, and Sea.
Google Pixel 7a: Specifications
The Google Pixel 7a introduces a 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED display that incorporates a 90Hz refresh rate, a departure from previous Pixel A-series models that typically featured a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The screen is safeguarded by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 and supports HDR content. The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner.
This smartphone from Google Pixel 7a features the latest Tensor G2 SoC, the same chip found in the premium Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. This processor is accompanied by the Titan M2 security co-processor and is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.3, NFC, and various global positioning systems. It includes a USB Type-C (3.2 Gen 2) port at the bottom.
Interestingly, the most recent 5G smartphone comes preloaded with Android 13 operating system. Google has made a commitment to provide three years of significant Android OS updates and five years of security patches. It is anticipated to be among the first devices to receive the upcoming Android 14 OS, which is scheduled to be released by Google in August this year.
In terms of battery, the Pixel 7a is equipped with a 4,385mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the battery found in the Pixel 6a. Notably, the device does not come with a charger included in the box. However, Google has introduced wireless charging for the first time in the Pixel 7a, with support for the Qi charging standard.
Speaking of optics, the Pixel 7a showcases significant improvements in its camera department compared to its predecessor. It boasts a 64-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). The ultra-wide-angle camera and selfie camera have also been upgraded to 13-megapixel sensors.
With the updated Tensor G2 SoC, the phone also introduces camera features such as faster Night Sight and Long Exposure modes to enhance photography capabilities.
