Google Photos gets updated with these changes for Android and iPhone users – Times of India

Google has made some changes to the Photos app for Android and iPhone users. The tech giant has renamed the “Archive” ability to “Hidden” in Google Photos for iOS. This tool helps users to hide images and videos from the main feed. On the other hand, the company has also made some additions to the info panel in the Android app. Let’s talk about the changes announced for the Google Photos app on both iOS and Android in more detail.
Changes coming to Google Photos for iOS
According to a report by 9to5Google, iPhone users are being greeted with a new prompt on updating Google Photos for iOS to version 6.1. This prompt reads — “Archive is now called Hidden” which confirms that Google has renamed the Archive section to Hidden for the iOS app. Moreover, the company has also mentioned that Hidden photos will be available in “albums and search results.” iPhone users can also find the Hidden folder in the Library view.
How does this new section work?
As per the report, whenever iPhone users open a photo (in the updated Google Photos app) and slide up to the overflow menu, they will find a new “Hide” button instead of the “Move to Archive” option. Meanwhile, the Library tab folder has also been renamed from “Archive” to “Hidden” with a new “slash through the eye” icon. The report mentions that no changes have been added to the functionality of this section.
This latest move is a “straightforward rename” as most of the end users are more familiar with “hiding” than “archiving,” the report claims. However, archiving has also been a common tech convention which has been popularised by email, the report also mentions. Moreover, the report also clarifies that the renaming is done for iPhone users as it is yet to make its way to Android and web users.
Changes coming to Google Photos for Android
As mentioned above, Google has added some important information to the Info Panel in the Photos app for Android. The Google Photos app for Android users now notes the on-device storage location of a picture which includes — the folder and the size, the report states. Moreover, Google has also added the “Backed up” section in the Photos app for Android users which was already available for both web and iOS users.
