Google News update brings Material You redesign to tablets – Times of India

Since 2021, Google has updated its apps and services with Android’s new Material You design language. The company has recently updated the Android Auto settings page, the search bar on Google Chrome and other apps with the new Material You design. Now, it’s time for another app to get the new design language. Phonearena has reported that Google has started rolling out a new update for the Google News app on Android tablets.
Google has already updated the News app for smartphones with the new Material You theme with the version 3.53 update. The update made the bottom bar a little taller and added a new hue and pill-shaped indicator for the active tabs. These changes are finally arriving in the Google News app on tablets with the version 5.71 update.
The new update for Google News is now available via Google Play Store. Users can head to the My apps and games section of the Play Store and look for the update. Alternatively, they can use Play Store’s search bar to search for the app and update it, if available.
The updated Google News app now features separated page content from the navigation rail and header. The page content section also has rounder corners at the top. The search bar design has also been changed, but slightly. Apart from that, the navigation rail in tablet mode is only visible when the app is being used in landscape orientation.
Google News app update also brings the app in-line with other Google apps like Play Store, Drive, etc in terms of Material You design language.
For those unaware, Google has recently updated the Google address bar with the new Material You theme. The updated address bar now appears to be similar to the Pixel smartphone’s universal search.
