Golden Knights’ Stephenson to replace Kraken’s Beniers at NHL All-Star Game

Vegas Golden Knights forward Chandler Stephenson will replace Seattle Kraken rookie Matty Beniers at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game this weekend.

Beniers has been out the Kraken’s last two games after he received a cross-check from Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers last Wednesday.

The play occurred in the second period of Seattle’s 6-1 win, when Myers cross-checked an unsuspecting Beniers, who was not near the puck. Beniers fell to the ice and was slow to get up, and did not return for the third period.

The 20-year-old American has 17 goals and 19 assists through 47 games.

Stephenson, 28, will attend his first All-Star Game. In 51 games, he has 11 goals and 33 assists.

NHL All-Star weekend festivities begin Friday with the Skills Competition and conclude Saturday with the All-Star Game. Watch both on Sportsnet.
